Installed bochs easily enough. It comes with a demo mode that you run by typing: bochs-dlx

This works fine. A 10Mb installation of Linux boots up (very slowly) in a window. I can log in and ls and reboot. There wasn't a whole lot there to do.

However, when I try to boot from the Netware CD I get the following error:

Event type: PANIC
Device: [CPU ]
Message: [CPU ] prefetch: EIP > CS.limit

Been preparing Jupiter to dual-boot Novell Netware 6. This has involved copying all the files from my root partition over to Saturn so I could delete and recreate the partition, without taking up the whole disk. Then, whilst waiting for files to get copied up and then down I had the idea of trying to run Netware under Bochs. For those of you familiar with Vmware, Bochs is an Open Source equivalent.

All Hail Open Source and Free (Speech) Software!

So I'll give bochs a go. Stay tuned.

It's a very, very old universe out there. Lungfish by David Brin.

Since I signed up as a member of CoeliacUK I have receive a number of mailings from Gluten-free suppliers. Most so far have just been leaflets.

Finally got to the end of this one. Took longer than I had hoped. But not as long as some books have taken me. The book itself was mildly amusing. Obviously aimed at a much younger audience than myself, by about 15-20 years.

For my next book I'll read The Martians. I've read Robinson's Mars trilogy before and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite having long gaps between each book. I unfortunately forget a lot of the details during periods like that. I'm much better reading the whole series in one go, or with only small breaks in-between.

It's time for the government to hire a new religious advisor. Your people have narrowed down the candidates to:

The Debate

1. Catholic Archbishop Chastity Fellow: boasts an excellent track record, having rapidly increased church attendances in his constituencies through the "Reaching God Through Guilt" program. Seen as a solid choice.

The Issue

Cheap, foreign-made cars are becoming increasingly popular, causing concern in Maltara's automobile manufacturing industry.

The Debate

1. "Unless this government does something, Maltara won't have an auto industry for much longer," says auto industry union boss Peggy Longfellow, in a rare public appearance alongside management. "These foreign companies employ people for a few prels a day. The only way to level the playing field is to raise tariffs. The government would make more money, too, so it's win-win."

The Issue

A recent poll has revealed high levels of dissatisfaction among the populace about tax rates.

The Debate

1. "Do you know how much of my year's work goes to the government?" demanded angry worker Colin Fellow. "Too much! Government spending has gotten way out of control. It needs big cuts in welfare, health, and education. But leave those subsidies to business alone. We need them to create jobs."

Not ten minutes after bitching about not getting XWindows to start properly last night, I did finally manage to get it up and working. Sensibly I took this small victory and ran. I was very tired and didn't want to f**k up anything that would stop X from working.

Besides I had been reading about SiS's complete refusal to provide any help in developing non-Win32 drivers for their hardware. Even to the extent of not letting some of their own staff who support Linux know the relevant details. Two dummies here: Me for buying an SiS mainboard and SiS for being [CENSORED].

The Issue

The latest "Harry Potter" book to hit schools across Maltara has stirred up the greatest controversy yet.

The Debate

1. "I quite enjoyed the book, until I got to the part where Harry summons evil demons to do his bidding," says religious leader Peggy Fellow. "Now that's just wrong. We need to restore some sense to this debate, by which I mean we should remove this book from the shelves, salt it thoroughly, and burn it."
